Solar Net Metering & the 2026 Change

Net metering lets rooftop solar owners send surplus electricity to the grid and offset their bills. In 2026, NEPRA replaced the old one-to-one net metering with a new net billing system under the Prosumer Regulations 2026 for new applicants.

What Changed in 2026

  • Old 1:1 net metering is replaced by net billing for new applicants (from 9 Feb 2026)
  • Existing valid net-metering agreements continue under old terms until their contracts expire
  • Surplus units are bought back at a regulator-set rate, while imported units are billed at the consumer tariff

  • Net metering / billing requires a three-phase connection and a bi-directional meter.
  • Your system size cannot exceed your sanctioned load.

Eligibility Criteria
